Tan Sri Datuk Tan Kean Soon
Chairman
   

Tan Sri Datuk Tan Kean Soon has many years of hands-on experience and unblemished track record in oil and gas upstream and downstream industry. His expertise and technical background in various oil and gas services range from negotiation, planning and implementation of production sharing contracts for green, brown and marginal oilfields to procurement, vessel, drilling, engineering and maintenance services. He has been able to consistently deliver outstanding performance in his illustrious 30 years career in the oil and gas industry

Tan Sri Datuk Tan is Chairman and CEO of CP Energy & Services Sdn Bhd, the flagship corporation of Tan Sri Datuk Tan that was founded in 1992. Under Tan Sri Datuk Tan’s helm and stewardship, the company flourished and grew rapidly.

Tan Sri Datuk Tan also serves as Advisor/Chairman/Director/CEO for numerous Malaysian and international companies including Tanjung Offshore Berhad (a Bursa Malaysia listed oil and gas company), HMS Oil & Gas Sdn Bhd, CP Technology & Engineering Sdn Bhd, Prisma Cerah Sdn Bhd, Thach Han Marine Services Co Ltd and CP Energy (S) Pte Ltd. Tan Sri Datuk Tan frequently advises his companies on a wide range of corporate matters including strategy development, strategic planning, operations and policies implementation, and business development.

Besides running his companies, Tan Sri Datuk Tan actively participates as Chairman of the Malaysian Chinese Oil and Gas Alliance (since 2008), Member of the Malaysian Oil and Gas Services Council (since 2008) and Member of the Malaysian Petroleum Club (since 2008).

Tan Sri Datuk Tan Kean Soon was awarded the titles of “Tan Sri” (2013), Justice of Peace (2013) and Datuk Panglima Jasa Negara (2011) by HRH the King of Malaysia. He is also the recipient of the title of D.I.M.P.

Dato’ Dr. Jessie Tang
Chief Executive Officer / Director
   

Dato’ Dr. Jessie Tang, aged 48, obtained her medical degree at Kasturba Medical College, India in 1994. After graduating, she served in the Government Hospital for 4 years. After completing her compulsory Government service, she joined a health care management company in Kuala Lumpur where she was responsible for setting up and managing a chain of clinics. In 2003, Dato’ Dr. Jessie teamed up with 2 other partners and formed a company distributing nutritional products locally and regionally.

Dato’ Dr. Jessie’s family was involved in rubber and oil palm plantations. Although she had chosen a medical career, she nevertheless has always been interested in getting into the agricultural sector. Due to her entrepreneurial spirit, leadership and vision in the prospects of palm oil, she embarked on the oil palm plantation business in East Malaysia.

Dato’ Dr. Jessie is a member of Malaysian Estate Owners’ Association (MEOA), serves as advisor for Sabah’s Kobe Osaka Karate Club, and a board member of the Women’s Institute of Management (WIM) Malaysia. She is also actively involved in the group’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and projects, particularly in empowering and improving the standard of living of women.

Dato’ Dr. Jessie is a Director of several companies within the East West One Group with businesses largely in the oil palm industry. Besides the group’s oil palm businesses in Malaysia, Dato’ Dr. Jessie is also expanding the group’s regional business presence into Indonesia, specifically in the oil palm and mining industries.

Dato’ Dr. Jessie’s interest in the corporate world and coupled with her determination and drive to succeed are key contributing factors to the group’s success and reaching greater heights.

Dato’ Dr. Jessie was bestowed the DSDK award in January 2013 in conjunction with the Sultan of Kedah’s 85th birthday.

Dato’ Dr Nik Norzrul Thani
Director
   

Dato' Dr Nik Norzrul Thani is chairman of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, Malaysia's largest and only international law firm, with offices in Singapore, Bangkok and Dubai as well as associate offices in Jakarta, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He is also chairman of ZI Shariah Advisory Services, an affiliate company of Zaid Ibrahim & Co that provides legal and advisory services on Islamic law. ZI Shariah has obtained recognition from the Malaysian Securities Commission as an approved Shariah Adviser.

Dato' Dr Nik graduated with LLB (Hons) from University of Buckingham, LLM from Queen Mary College, University of London and has a PhD in Law from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London and is a Barrister of Lincoln's Inn. In addition, he also possesses a post-graduate diploma in Shariah Law and Practice (with distinction) from the International Islamic University Malaysia. Dato' Dr Nik is also a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) and Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK).

Dato' Dr Nik advises on a wide range of legal matters incorporating Islamic finance, banking, offshore finance, debt restructuring, international corporate and commercial law. He has been a legal counsel for several mergers and acquisitions and advises generally on regulatory and compliance issues. In addition to general advice on Islamic banking and finance, Dato' Dr Nik has been involved in numerous award winning UK issuance transactions, structuring of Islamic products and funds, and has been a legal consultant on Islamic finance for various international and multilateral agencies, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), & Islamic Development Bank (IDB). He has advised various governments in different jurisdictions on the implementation of Islamic financial systems in these countries.

Previously, he was working in a firm of accountants and at a bank in Kuala Lumpur. He was a Visiting Fulbright Scholar, Harvard Law School in 1996/1997, Chevening Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Centre of Islamic Studies, Oxford University in 2004/2005, and was formerly the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Laws, International Islamic University, Malaysia. Prior to joining Zaid Ibrahim & Co he practised at international law firm, Baker & McKenzie.

He is the author of Legal Aspects of The Malaysian Financial System and the co-author of The Law and Practice of Islamic Banking & Finance and Law & Practice of Islamic Corporate and Investment Finance. Dato' Dr Nik is also co-authoring a book entitled Islamic Finance – Products and Concepts, which will be published by John Wiley & Sons (Asia) Pte Ltd.

Dr. Tan Eng Heong
Chief Operating Officer / Director
   

Dr. Tan Eng Heong, aged 46, obtained his medical degree at Kasturba Medical College, India in 1994. Upon graduation, he served at Hospital Alor Setar as his compulsory Government service. He furthered his studies and obtained his Fellowship of Royal College of Surgery in Edinburgh at the age of 29. He also received training at Hospital Selayang, University of Beijing and Taipei National University.

After 6 years in Government service, Dr. Tan joined the private practice at Southern Hospital, Melaka as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and later moved to Hospital Pantai Ayer Keroh.

Although he was a specialist and consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, he was bold and took the courage to venture into business. Dr. Tan had a very keen interest in the agriculture sector. This coupled with his entrepreneur spirit and family background in timber trading, sawmill and oil palm plantation led him to diversify from medical practice which he was involved in for more than 13 years into business in the agriculture sector.

Dr. Tan’s family has been involved in the agricultural sector for more than 30 years. With the knowledge and experiences acquired through exposure to his family businesses, he is an asset to the East West One Group especially in palm oil related businesses.
